From childhood, he was trained to despise infidels and to fight for Allah. To be strong, to show solidarity with the clan and to succeed his father, who was one of the country's leading politicians. In such a world, there is no room for doubts, questions or even weak moments. This makes the story of Yassir Eric all the more remarkable. Growing up in Northern Sudan, he finds faith in Jesus himself while trying to steer his uncle, who had converted to Christianity, back onto the "right path" of Islam. Yassir Eric has to flee and is declared dead in his home country. He starts a new life in Germany. Here he learns to appreciate values such as freedom and equality, which he used to despise. His credo: There is a need for a long overdue, critical dialogue between cultures and religions. "We have to openly name and solve conflicts, only then is peaceful coexistence possible."
